The Americas Hernia Society and I are very excited to be a part of the 1st World Conference on Abdominal Wall Hernia Surgery in Milan in 2015.This conference will offer the most comprehensive scientific program on abdominal wall reconstruction. As the field of hernia surgery now represents a true collaboration amongst many surgical specialists, this meeting will highlight these interactions and certainly foster many more collaborative efforts for future endeavors. Sharing the viewpoints of herniologists, plastic surgeons, trauma surgeons, minimally invasive surgeons, gastrointestinal surgeons amongst others, will foster a rich scientific environment for education and learning. As our field has emerged from small single center experiences defining surgical approaches, we will now be able to share large registry databases from multiple countries, evaluate cutting edge clinical research redefining best practices in abdominal wall reconstruction, and understand basic scientific research efforts to evaluate all aspects of hernia repair. With the addition of a significant “live surgical” component, participants are sure to learn new and interesting approaches to repairing all types of hernias from a true multinational perspective. As the international hernia community has grown larger and larger, it is meetings like this that allow us to come together, share ideas, and really continue to push the boundaries of abdominal wall hernia surgery to obtain the best results possible outcomes for our patients. No matter where you live, if you repair hernias, this meeting is the place to be. With the comprehensive scientific program, and the beautiful backdrop of Milan, this will be a spectacular meeting in one of the most spectacular cities in the world.

rosenI am certain that this week in Milan will promise to be one of the most fulfilling personal and professional experiences. I am excited to have the opportunity to support Dr. Campanelli and the European Hernia Society in this amazing event.
